Objects & artefacts
The collections of The Rothschild Archive include a number of objects, artefacts and non-archival material. These items have largely been acquired by the Archive through gift and purchase.
Artefacts will be found listed in this Guide under the section to which they relate. For example artefacts relating to individual Rothschild family members will be found listed under that person's name in Rothschild family papers » The Archive also has a large collection of artefacts associated with the four New Court buildings; these will be found listed under The London banking house: New Court »
Other artefact 'collections' include:
- Silver: The items in this collection do not represent an attempt the acquire a 'silver collection' per se. Many of these items are Rothschild family pieces. The provenance of the pieces is varied; some of the pieces have been gifted to, or purchased by, the Archive; others have been at New Court for many years, where they have been gifted or purchased for display or use in dining rooms. - Sculpture: Many of these items are Rothschild family pieces. The provenance of the pieces is varied; some of the pieces have been gifted to, or purchased by, the Archive; others have been at New Court for many years, where they have been gifted or purchased for display. - Clocks: A collection of historic clocks, used at New Court. Most of theses pieces can still be found on display at New Court. These items are not owned by the Archive, but are curated by the Archive on behalf of the London business. See The London banking house: New Court: artefacts: clocks »
- Historic furniture: A collection of historic pieces of furniture, used at New Court. Many pieces are still in use or displayed at New Court.
