Loans Department: loans issued by N M Rothschild & Sons from New Court, prospectuses, XIII/230 series, 1860-1916
XIII/230/1-95, 111, 7 boxes, 1 volume
Papers in the XIII/230 series orginally appear to have been compiled as a record of Prospectuses (beginning in 1862) and was probably held by the Dividend or Paying Agents Department.
Formal printed documents, entitled a ‘Prospectus’ appear to have been published from c.1860. Prior to that date a circular notice was published under the title of the loan, describing the loan offering, the issuer, the loan terms and inviting applications to the issuing house. Few papers for early loans under Nathan Mayer Rothschild (1777-1836) exist; see the XIII/206 series and 000/401 for material relating to early loans issues, including examples of circular notices for early loans.
The early folders in the XIII/230 series contain printed copies of prospectuses for loans issued by N M Rothschild & Sons or by the London house in conjunction with other financial houses, primarily loans issued under the Senior Partner, Nathaniel, 1st Lord Rothschild (1840-1915). Some prospectuses also include supporting documentation, such as a map. Some folders also contain application forms and letters of allotment, and payment schedules and other printed loan documentation. The collection of documents is not complete, but it contains examples of prospectuses relating to almost all New Court loans issues. Note that some loans were not issued by N M Rothschild & Sons but are for loans for which the London house acted as paying agents.
XIII/230/111 is a single volume entitled ‘Prospectuses of Loans issued by N M Rothschild & Sons, 1862-1909’ . This volume contains copies of prospectuses of NMR loan issues pasted into its pages. It was believed to have originally been compiled as central reference source for prospectuses issued up to that date.

Loan Prospectuses, Partners' record set, 1905-1954
000/292, 2 files
Copies of prospectuses for loans issued by NMR, 1905-1954. It is believed that these files may have been compiled as a 'record set' for the Partners. Papers relating to underwriting will be found in the Special Subject Correspondence series XI/111.
Loan Prospectuses and sundry papers extracted from Home Ledgers series, 1859-1910
000/2284, 18 files
These documents were discovered in pockets inside the covers of the Home Ledgers series VI/10. It is believed that these papers were 'filed' in the pockets inside the Home Ledgers when the ledgers were current, for ease of reference. The papers consist of copies of loan prospectuses, sundry correspondence, scraps of figures and notes, and copies of the periodical Course of the Exchange, 1860-1865, giving the latest prices, which was published twice weekly on Tuesdays and Fridays by Edward Wetenhall, Stock-Broker. Some of the prospectuses do not survive elsewhere in the collection, for example the prospectus and map for the 1882 Rohilkund & Kumaon Railway Company loan, and the prospectus for the Exploration Company issue of 1889.
