Postal History Survey

The business papers in The Rothschild Archive collection are known to contain a number of important and rare postal markings and items of philatelic interest.

Following a preliminary survey carried out in 1986, Patrick Pearson was asked to search through correspondence in the Archive to identify, photocopy and value the more important and interesting items with stamps or postal history markings. The survey was carried out between April 1987 and August 1993 during which period approximately 900 boxes were examined from the following series:

  • XI/38: correspondence in alphabetical sequence by named correspondent
