Selected secondary sources for the history of the London banking house

A former Company Secretary of NMR, Ronald Palin, published in 1970 an account of his years with the Bank. (Palin, Ronald: Rothschild Relish (Cassell 1970)). His reminiscences of his career from 1925, and the anecdotes of earlier years gathered from older colleagues, form a second useful source in explaining the interrelation of the Bank's departments at the time of the compilation of the Old Catalogue. In fact, it is clear that most of the departments were mere divisions of the General Office.
